STREET SIGNS UP....
The street signs are up now. I'm excited. I've been waiting for this milestone. The main road into the estate is in honour of my great grandfather. He first purchased the land in the 1930's and it has been in my family ever since. My grandparents used to run sheep on the land, but after the boys (my dad and uncles) bought the land from them, they moved towards running some cattle. Whilst they have all pursued other careers and businesses, they are still farm boys at heart. They love going out and checking the cattle and doing bits and pieces around then farm. We have some Wagyu beef running around at the moment and all us kids are hanging out and licking our lips. Yum.

Where was I? So Roy Earl Drive is in memory of my great grandfather and Villers Street is in memory of a town in Northern France near to where he won a military medal for bravery in World War 2. The town is called Villers-Bretonneux so we have Villers Street, Bretonneux Turn and also Noreuil Circuit where he was awarded his second medal, a bar to the military cross.

The other streets are named after families that first settled on the site in the mid-1920's. Abberton Lane, Nillson Lane, Hocking Lane, Whiting Lane and Jenkins Edge. Abberton Lane replaces Scott Lane as there is already a Scott Street in the area, and Hocking Lane replaces Tearle Lane, as it was rejected as Tearle sounds too much like Earl.

The Australian War Memorial is an excellent resource. I've linked to the battle story for which he was awarded the military cross as posted on the site.
